Chapter J Anniversary Ride
Six Chapter "L" members ventured out into the warm Oklahoma sun to celebrate Chapter "J" Anniversary on Saturday, August 14, 2010 held at Mineral Wells Park, Guthrie, OK. This is their 23rd anniversary which makes them one of the oldest, if not the oldest chapter in Oklahoma. Our group, Tom & Paula Clouse, Phillip & Wynona Cook, and Max & Mary Rowlett, met at the Love's store on Highway 49 at 8:15 AM, and kickstands went up at 8:30 AM. While the weather was a little warm it was a pleasant ride to Guthrie and traffic was rather light. We arrived approximately 10:30 AM and registered as guests. Chapter J had a large 50/50 drawing, contingency drawings, guess the weight of the watermelon contest, and guess the number of beans in a jar contest which we all signed up for. After we signed in, the trolley cars arrived to give all of us a free tour of historic Guthrie, the original Oklahoma state capital. We munched on home made cookies as we toured the old homes, territorial jail, Carnegie Library, fire house and old state capital buildings. When we returned to the park, Larry & Mary Punneo, and the Chapter J folks laid out a small feast for all the guests. We had hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, 4 or 5 salads, baked beans, and a very large table of deserts. After lunch the games/contests began with Chapter L , Max & Phillip Cook, winning the water balloon toss, and Phillip made the best guess on how many beans were in the jar. Not sure how much money he won, but I believe it paid for his travel expenses. I believe the final head count was between 125-130 people in attendance, including the Region H Director and most of his staff. The ride back to Lawton was rather warm, 106 degrees, but we adjusted our schedule making a couple stops at the OKC Love Store and the Chickasha Braum's to take on water, soda, and of course, ice cream. No trip is complete without BBQ and/or ice cream! It was a great day having fun with our friends.
