Region H Rally

The Region H GWRRA rally was held in Marshall, TX on April 17 - 19th. Tom & I attended all 3 days of events. We left Apache on Wed and rode as far as Paris, TX. The wind was terrible but the weather was great for riding. Thursday morning threatened rain but held off and was calmer. We stopped briefly in Jefferson to do some antique shopping and get lunch. Thursday events included Stagecoach Races (I lost $1.00) and the opening ceremonies and an ice cream social which we attended. We insuated ourselves upon a number of other Oklahoma GWRRA membes there representing their chapters. Thursday night we went to Catfish Village in Waskom. The entertainment for the night was Oklahoma District COY Coordinator Phillip Carolla arm wrestled with the waitress (he almost lost). Thursday night (or should I say very, very early Friday morning) the threatened storm hit with lots of rain, lightening and thunder, we lost power at the hotel for about 1/2 hour.  On Friday morning Tom attended the Leadership seminar, while I went to the Co-rider seminar, we both watched the Region H COY selection (which was won by Mike & Pam Jastram of LA), and in the afternoon Tom took the classroom portion of the Trike Course while I found a quiet corner with a book. Also on Friday afternoon was another Stagecoach Race (I won $5.00), a talent show and the Light Show. New friends of ours Randy & Maria Jones Chapter N Directors were the overall winners on their orange & black Trike w/orange & green lights. Again the contingent from Oklahoma went to dinner enmass this time to The Jalapeno Tree (before the light show). The evening ended up at The Hampton Inn where we watched an interesting game of quarters. On Saturday Tom finished the Trike Course and I attended the COY Seminar, I earned my "marshall's" badge by selling 50/50 tickets. (I'm beginning to think COY means VOLUNTEER). Saturday afternoon brought on another Stagecoach Race (I won $7.00 - HEY I think I'm getting a hang of this), dress competition and the closing ceremonies. The OK District officers had to attend a dinner function so the remaining OK members went their own way for dinner, Tom & I joined our new friends fellow COY from Chapter S Garry & Barbara Baird and also Randy & Maria at The Bodacious BBQ, then back to the Hampton for more "Quarters". I joined in the game this time and lost $3.75 (OH WELL easy come easy go). Sunday morning came too soon and after breakfast at Golden Corral Randy & Maria joined us for the trip back. We left them heading north to Norman on I-35 as we headed west on OK 7, once again the wind trying to knock us sideways. At this time I'd like to mention to all our friends at Chapter L, Tom & I appreciate you having put some confidence in us to be your COY for 2008. We hope that we will put our best foot forward when representing all of you at any GWRRA functions we attend.
