September 17th Altus Stunt Show & Movie Ride

Chapter L Director, Tom Clouse, requested all Angel Wings who were interested in attending a Sept. 17th Motorcycle Demonstration/Stunt Show to meet at the Lawton Assembly of God Church @ 12:00 PM, for a 12:15 PM departure to Altus.  At the appointed time, Tom, Max & Mary Rowlett were ready to ride! We arrived at Altus Motorsports at approximately 1:00 PM in time for free hotdogs, chips, soft drinks. James and Margaret Wooten of Altus and Chapter L members joined us later. At 1:30 PM the Edmond Police Department Demonstration Team, under the supervision of Sergeant Acey Hopper, gave a impressive show of precision riding and how to avoid road hazards. The team members were truly professional. The Edmond PD offers a civilian motorcycle survival class to anyone interested in participating. see ww.edmondpd.com or Facebook /edmond.motorcycle.survival . After the police demo a team from No Limits Thrill Team entertained the audience with their stunts. They rode through a serpentine traffic cone line on the back wheels of the sport bikes, braked hard throwing the bike up on the front wheels and rode the bike in that manner for some distance. They popped wheelies and did spin outs around members selected from the audience.  One performer rode towards the Announcer who was seated on the pavement with his legs spread apart, the performer applied the front brakes at 40 MPH and rode the front wheel to within one inch of the Announcers crotch without touching him. I don't recommend you attempt this with your Gold Wings! The show finished about 2:45 and the store closed about 3:00 Pm after giving away free caps, t-shirts, and kickstand pads. We went to Braum's (where else?) for a little nourishment before we began our movie ride to Carneigie's Liberty Theatre. While we enjoying our little meal a storm blew up and it actually rained in Oklahoma! Believe it or not! We had to ride down Highway 19 between two storm fronts to avoid the rain and lightening, but we were successful. Paula Clouse, LaVoyd & Linnie Davis joined us at the theatre, and after loading up on "Show Dogs" and popcorn, we chose to see "30 Minutes or Less" a funny skit about a pizza delivery driver who is forced to rob a bank after two hoods attach a bomb laden vest to him. It was very entertaining, but had a little too much, pointless profanity even for this old salt who has heard his fair share of barracks language. After the movie the crowd decided on the Lawton Braum's Store for refreshments. Yeah! I know you weren't expecting that!! We had a nice ride in, however a rather slow Armadillo gave me a little excitement but he made a hasty retreat. We had an hour or so to visit and trade stories before calling it a day. My favorite flavor for this week was white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake ice cream! YUM! I do recommend it!  RIDE SAFE & RIDE OFTEN!          be          beforeto avoid the rain and lighteni, eAfter t!
